It felt incredibly gratifying to see how all the loose ends were wrapped up in the last act and how almost every single main character played a crucial role in the conclusion. I don’t think I have come across an author before that seems to understand mental health and portray it so well in fiction as Robin Hobb.Ĭonsequently, Hobb is able to wrap up all the loose ends in this final book of the trilogy, making this a very satisfying read. Ship of Destiny by Robin Hobb – Book 3 in The Liveship Trader’s Trilogy (Book review) ![]() ![]() Yeats could have easily made this poem into a traditional sonnet with fourteen lines, but he chose to emphasize a moment in the story of Leda. This is related to the theme of the poem because rape is also something that is against the norm. The addition of an extra line within the poem makes it experimental, out of the ordinary, and against the norm. A sonnet has a fixed form of fourteen lines written in iambic pentameter, but this poem has fifteen. The deviance from what is normally deemed appropriate for a sonnet portrays the uneasiness and confusion of the situation.Īside from Yeats’ change from the traditional romance inspired sonnet, his small deviation from fourteen lines to fifteen also lends towards the aura of tension within the poem. ![]() By telling the story of a rape within the confines that are usually reserved for romance, the message of the poem gives mixed signals and causes tension. What is supposed to be about love, is about violence, violation, and obsession which implies that the story of Leda and the Swan is about the tension and discombobulated feelings aligned with rape and the irony of physical intimacy equating to love. Yeats’ sonnet deviates from the idea of love and instead focuses on the tragedy of rape. The traditional sonnet is generally reserved for writing about love, like the poetry composed by William Shakespeare and Petrarch. Though “Leda and the Swan” is written in sonnet form, it does not fit every single rule perfectly which enforces the tension of the poem. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() What I give the Ali Seal of Approval (aka what I liked): or that he'd help her unlock the powerful truth of who she really is. Alwyn Hamilton did a fantastic job crafting a tale that combines a spunky, sharp-shooting, female protagonist with mystical middle-eastern mythology. Luckily, Rebel of the Sands saved me from that fate. I’ve read too many that were crummy, and I was about to write off genre altogether (unfair, I know). I’ve been feeling sort of down and out with young adult novels lately. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Heavily the low sky raining Over tower'd Camelot Down she came and found a boat Beneath a willow left afloat, And around about the prow she wrote The Lady of Shalott. Extract from the poem: In the stormy east-wind straining, The pale yellow woods were waning, The broad stream in his banks complaining. Waterhouse captures the point at which the Lady of Shalott is floating down the river just before her death. She leaves her tower, knowing that it is her fate to die, and travels down the river to Camelot. The mirror cracks and the curse comes into effect. One day she watches the knight Lancelot ride by and struck by love looks out the window at him. She can only watch the outside world from a mirror, and weaves the scenes she sees in tapestries. This poem was written in 1833 and is based on tales from Arthurian Legend, focusing on the plight of Elaine of Astolat, a woman confined to a tower under a curse. Tennyson lived in Victorian Britain from 1809 until his death in 1892. Waterhouse's The Lady of Shalott is based on the poem of the same name by the poet, Alfred Lord Tennyson. ![]() ![]() ![]() She and her friends are confronted with two wars: the first against Valentine Morgenstern, and the second against his son Jonathan Morgenstern. ![]() The series is mainly set in the year 2007 and revolves around the Shadowhunter Clary Fairchild.
